My Name is Dan Garang Marrial. I was born in 1980 in Bor town in the Upper Nile Region of the Sudan.
I am 4th born of the 7th children. My dad perished in civil war between SPLA Rebels and Sudan Government Soldiers during the war inception in 1983.
My father was in army and my mother was a proud cattle keeper. I began my studies in 1989 in a small village called Gaak in Bor Sudan, before separating with my mum and other siblings.
In 1990 the war became so serious between the Government Soldiers and different rebel factions and I was separated from my mother and other siblings.
I fled to Uganda where I finished my High School studies in 2001 under the care of UNHCR. In 2004, I was lucky to get Australian resettlement form and I was successful in the process of getting Australian Visa.
I arrived in Australia in February 2004. I started my studies in TAFE in 2005 and finish a diploma in Business Administration in 2006. But I had a passion and ambition of studying Journalism, Economic or Law.
In 2007 I was offered an option to study Journalism in Monash University and I accepted it because it was one of my choices. I think my future is now brighter than it was before and I hope the best is still ahead.
