New Australia Media's Wesa Chau is Young Victorian of the YearWe are delighted to announce that one of our reporters has been named Young Victorian of the Year. Wesa Chau and her mentor Hugo Kelly have done a fantastic job in helping to explain the concerns of international students in Australia. You can read Wesa's stories on this website and soon in Leader Community Newspapers, our new media partner. New Australia Media recently launched its partnership with Leader Newspapers with a story about young Burmese Australians returning to refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border. NAM's pilot project 18 months ago identified gaps in media coverage of migrant and refugee communities in Australia. New Australia Media is a non-profit organisation that aims to give young people from a diverse range of backgrounds the skills to produce articles for publication in a range of Australian media, with the pro bono help of some of the country's best and most experienced journalists. If you are a young person who would like to have a voice in the media please contat us, we want stories about communities, events, issues or people you admire. Our stories from the pilot project have been republished in daily papers, online news websites and in the Big Issue magazine. So join us in helping to make the mainstream media more multicultural and the multicultural media more mainstream. Email: info@newaustraliamedia.org
